Mattiazzi presents two new collections by Inga Sempé and Leon Ransmeier at the Salone del Mobile Milano 2018
At the Salone del Mobile Milano 2018, Mattiazzi – one of the most respected Italian manufacturers of solid wood furniture – will be presenting two new collections designed by Inga Sempé and Leon Ransmeier respectively. Mattiazzi thus continues its successful collaboration with outstanding designers such as Erwan and Ronan Bouroullec, Konstantin Grcic, Jasper Morrison, Nitzan Cohen, and Sam Hecht & Kim Colin. Mattiazzi is well known for linking high-tech production facilities with traditional craftsmanship and also for its careful selection of the varieties of wood and materials it works with.

Inga Sempé represents a new collaboration for Mattiazzi with MC17 by showcasing her latest design Bienvenue. Sempé explains the story behind this upholstered chair: “Bienvenue is an upholstered chair for contract sales. Its padding makes it comfortable to sit on for long periods and its low, rounded armrests allow it to slide easily under the table. The idea behind Bienvenue is cushioning, which, instead of resting on the chair, is actually part of its structure. With this in mind, the wooden structure is made up of a multi-ply frame supported by solid ash legs. The back legs are built into the frame, from the base to the top. Milling parallel to the uprights allows the cushioning to become part of the frame: from the front, the fabric disappears to reveal ash uprights in the padded backrest. From the back, the top of the uprights are sheathed in the padding that surrounds them. The corolla of the frame is crowned by a cylinder of coated foam, providing support for the back that is smooth to the touch. Bienvenue is available in three colors – natural, gray, and black. The padding can be made in just one fabric or divided into several distinct parts: the corolla, the seat, and the backrest.”
The collection MC16 Forcina by Leon Ransmeier comprises a chair, an armchair, and a stool with a steel frame, a wooden seat, and a backrest. The collection is rounded off with a table. In Ransmeier’s own words: “The Italian word forcina means ‘hairpin’ in English. The Forcina collection has a pragmatic feminine character. From the outset, it was considered within the context of a café or a restaurant. Historically, café chairs often have a curvilinear form influenced perhaps by the iconic history of Viennese café furniture or the sweetness of the pastries served there. The shape of Forcina’s solid wooden seat and backrest echo the comfortably sculpted surfaces on the top of the seat and the front of the backrest. The stainless-steel frames are CNC-bent and enable efficient manufacturing with few parts and minimal welding. The frame reaches beyond the backrest and, like the hairpin, offers easy handling. The collection includes chairs, armchairs, square and round tables, low stools, and barstools. All items are available in natural oak, natural ash, or black stained ash. The frames come either in a blasted stainless-steel or a black lacquered finish.”
The new designs are also completed with the Primo stool, an addition of MC14 collection by Konstantin Grcic, and the artistically shaped pillow Quindici designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for the MC15 collection and which was already presented at the Stockholm Furniture Fair.
